Le jeune homme travaillant cette nuit là nous accueille et nous fait payer seulement la nuit suivante car il s’agit d’un « early checking » forcément nous sommes ravis!Le lendemain en rentrant de balade, l’employée d’accueil nous agresse directement en nous disant que l’on doit payer (le early checking) bien évidement nous cherchons à comprendre pourquoi alors que son collègue nous a dit l’inverse… elle s’énerve, devient limite agressive et hautaine. L’erreur vient de son collègue et elle s’en prend à nous comme ci nous étions des voleurs. Quelle belle mentalité… l’ambiance est vraiment malsaine. Cette fille ne nous a plus dit bonjour du séjour (même pas une réponse) Quelle mentalité ! Je crois qu’elle n’a pas compris ce que c’est que de travailler dans le tourisme..Je ne reviendrai en aucun cas dans cette hostel!Dommage car l’auberge en elle-même n’est pas si mal

Jo Campos: Do not stay if you are coming in with PeruHop. I arrived very early in the morning (emailed and called beforehand to inform them of this) and I was knocking for 30 minutes, in the cold, before opening the door. Then this dude had the audacity to get an attitude with me because I kept ringing the doorbell. We argued for 15 minutes in the street simply because he wanted to be right about how I was waking everyone up ringing the doorbell. I told him the solution to that is pretty clear: open the door. I told him off and please believe, that if I wasn't a single female alone in a foreign country at 5am on a cold street, I most definitely would have punched that little b**** in the throat. Cristina Vukic: One of the best hostels in Peru. I love the way the beds have a curtain, it gives you a sense of space and privacy that is not that common. Location is great and price is even better. Aimee Holt: HOOP, like some other organizations internationally, *charges you* to volunteer your time for them. It costs $250 USD to volunteer with them, which is about a months minimum wage salary here. Algo huele mal. If you're looking for an opportunity to volunteer in Arequipa, or anywhere in South America, be aware there are many, many free options. A quick Google search will help you find them.
Michelle Cartier-Archambault: Where to start? I only have positive things to day about this NGO. Even though HOOP is not very big, it still makes a huge impact on the community they are working with. All of the staff genuinly care about making a difference and this dedication also touches the volunteers that come to help! It was a life changing experience for me. The NGO is perfectly transparent and well structured. New ideas and suggestions are always welcomed and everyone is able to find it's place to help in their most efficient way. I could go on and on about why HOOP is awesome but the best thing you can do is check it out yourself. I highly recommend volunteering with them. Believe me, you won't regret it.
Julianne Ezra: This is an organised and immensely rewarding NGO to volunteer for. I started as a teacher for 3 months and loved it so much I'm now a founding trustee of the UK fundraising branch - Helping Overcome Obstacles Peru UK. It was certainly a life changing experience. HOOP has had a clear positive impact on the community of Flora Tristan and continues to grow its activities based on what the people genuinely need. The children are gorgeous and the English school is such an integral part of their lives. The lively playground after classes is great fun and the glorious climate of Arequipa is the perfect backdrop with its stunning blue skies and volcano horizon. Don't let the joining fee put you off, it's your guarantee that this is a bona fide organisation that is genuinely making a difference. Enjoy!

clémence moreau: Great great hostel ! Super nice staff, really friendly and caring. They organise many activities, there is breakfast included, everybody eats together around the same table. The place is super clean with rooftop, pool, Netflix tv, shared kitchen… it would be great to have a bit more storage in the room, we had 2 desks and lockers though. (I was in the 6 bed room).The price of the hostel and it’s location right next to the center makes it even better.I could only recommend !

Rut Martinez: Perfect to share a room and meet people. It has common areas such as ping pong or billiards. Recommendable. It also has a tour at a good price.
Niek van de Minkelis: This is a cozy hostel with a great atmosphere! Shower was immediately hot and stayed that way as well! Plenty of bathrooms and toilets, almost never have to wait. What I like in particular is the setting for the breakfast, where you sit with all visitors together at one kitchen table. Makes it very easy to talk to people and gives a cozy and welcome feeling.

Sjoed T: We had a very unpleasant experience here on one of the days. The Peruvian lady with the glasses working at front desk we found to be extremely rude. To be honest, my partner and I were quite surprised as it came out of nowhere. We had booked one night to stay at this hostel before we went for a three day trek and then would return to the hostel for two days after our trek. These were two separate bookings on hostelworld. We went downstairs to place the bags into storage and the lady told us we need to pay in advance for the next booking as well or we couldn’t store our luggage. We argued a little with her saying that’s not correct as we still have a cancellation policy with hostelworld where I can cancel the booking the day before if I wanted, so why would I pay in advance. At this point she was getting quite annoyed and said this is company policy and we have to pay or the bags can’t be stored. We honestly didn’t want to fight with her as we needed somewhere to put the bags so agreed to pay. There were three other groups in the common room who listened to the whole conversation and afterwards told us that they were really baffled by what this lady was saying and how aggressive she was for no reason. They told us Jose let them store the bags and didn’t ask for prepayment for the advance booking. I come to know from another guest who was from India that he had experienced something similar (aggressiveness, rudeness etc) from the same lady and he said there were other guests of colour who didn’t have a pleasant experience from this same lady. On the other hand you have Jose, who was absolutely amazing. He literally went out of his way for any requests. He was a really nice and friendly guy. That other Peruvian lady with the glasses needs to be fired. She gives a terrible image to the hostel. Also, there are two Peruvian girls we met working behind the front desk and the one without the glasses was really nice, so I don’t want to confuse the both.

Mila Courbe: Grand hostel. Les locaux sont très propres ainsi que la cuisine et les salles de bain. Bon petit déjeuner copieux inclus. Le personnel est très gentil et serviable. Le service de laverie est nikel, vêtements propres et pliés. De nombreux tours sont proposés.
Pavlos Papadakis: Had a terrible experience trying to book a bed at this place.I had arrived late at night, around 10:30 p.m. after a brutal 14 hour bus ride from Bolivia.I fully understand if you are fully booked and cannot offer me a bed, but the way the owner asked me to leave was rude and made me feel like garbage. No "sorry, we are fully booked tonight but we have availability _____"..... just "no reservation, leave now."The next day, I went back (because I have friends staying there) and was met with the same attitude, by a different employee. I didn't even get a chance to sit down with my friend who was having breakfast for ten minutes before being asked to leave.There are cameras EVERYWHERE, it feels like a prison. You can't even get out of the place without being buzzed out by the receptionist.I felt like a criminal just asking if there was any availability.A really horrible experience.

Daneza Lazarte: They don't have rooms available, and sometimes they put you in one that didn't do the proper cleaning! It seems that they are lazy!
