Thomas Gerin: I took several weeks of Spanish lessons with Rocio in May-June 2022. Private lessons at flexible times, face-to-face or online. Fun, efficient and excellent value for money. Useful books and methods are also provided. We can talk about news, tourism, Peruvian culture... Rocio, who is a guide as well, also gives good advice for tourism in Arequipa and the region. A very good experience!

HOOP was founded in 2012 by volunteers and staff of the Flora Tristan English School in Cerro Colorado. Families there had no access to basic services and it was sought to provide educational services to achieve a positive impact on the community.

Aimee Holt: HOOP, like some other organizations internationally, *charges you* to volunteer your time for them. It costs $250 USD to volunteer with them, which is about a months minimum wage salary here. Algo huele mal. If you're looking for an opportunity to volunteer in Arequipa, or anywhere in South America, be aware there are many, many free options. A quick Google search will help you find them.
Michelle Cartier-Archambault: Where to start? I only have positive things to day about this NGO. Even though HOOP is not very big, it still makes a huge impact on the community they are working with. All of the staff genuinly care about making a difference and this dedication also touches the volunteers that come to help! It was a life changing experience for me. The NGO is perfectly transparent and well structured. New ideas and suggestions are always welcomed and everyone is able to find it's place to help in their most efficient way. I could go on and on about why HOOP is awesome but the best thing you can do is check it out yourself. I highly recommend volunteering with them. Believe me, you won't regret it.
Julianne Ezra: This is an organised and immensely rewarding NGO to volunteer for. I started as a teacher for 3 months and loved it so much I'm now a founding trustee of the UK fundraising branch - Helping Overcome Obstacles Peru UK. It was certainly a life changing experience. HOOP has had a clear positive impact on the community of Flora Tristan and continues to grow its activities based on what the people genuinely need. The children are gorgeous and the English school is such an integral part of their lives. The lively playground after classes is great fun and the glorious climate of Arequipa is the perfect backdrop with its stunning blue skies and volcano horizon. Don't let the joining fee put you off, it's your guarantee that this is a bona fide organisation that is genuinely making a difference. Enjoy!

It is located in a pleasant area, in front of a park, not far from the city center, a shopping center, small shops and other simple ones. The kitchen equipment is basic; I missed a can opener and an orange juicer. In the bathroom there are no shelves in the shower or sink. The sofa in the living room is poorly preserved and stained. I had problems with hot water.
